Mac OS Xのシングルユーザーモードからディスクリペアやキャッシュクリーニングなどのディスクメンテナンスを施すスクリプト集「AppleJack」は、残念ながらLeopard対応版がリリースされない見込みとなってしまいました。

そこで、Pantherな拙環境でも来たるアップグレードの日に備えて代替ソフトを探していましたが、ここでも筆頭候補となったのは定番ユーティリティの「OnyX」です。しかし、「OnyX」は未だに草創期のイメージが強く、システムを不安定にしてしまうクラッシャーツールという観念が刷り込まれていたので、こやつにMac OS Xの保守の要を任せてやるのはどうにも心許ない。それに、通常ログインして実行するユーティリティでは、バックグラウンドで動いているタスクや、ソフト自身の安定度にも影響されてしまう為、安全面から言ってもシングルユーザーモードでメンテナンス出来るに越したことはありません。

アラスカ産のこのソフト、各種のキャッシュクリーニングやスワップファイルの削除の他、メンテナンススクリプトの実行やパーミッションの修復にも対応していますが、かいつまんだだけでも、ウイルス / マルウェアのスキャン、設定ファイルの修復、RAMテスト、Mac OS Xの最適化、Mac OS Xの隠し設定のカスタマイズ、タスク / プロセスの制御などなど、とにかく多機能でやれることが豊富です。しかし、最大の特徴はシングルユーザーモードに対応していること。Fileメニューから付属の「LCC Single User Mode Script」をインストールすることで、晴れて「AppleJack」と同じことが出来る様になります。$12.99のシェアウェアなので一瞬躊躇してしまいますが、Leopardに対応したディスクメンテナンスソフトで、ここまでの機能を網羅しつつシングルユーザーモードに対応したツールというのは他に見当たらないので、試す価値はありそうです。

国内では評判を可視化できるほど実績を伴っている訳ではないので、実際に導入するには人柱の覚悟が必要ですが、それでもバックアップツールの「SuperDuper!」と「Leopard Cache Cleaner」があれば、安心してLeopardに移行することが出来そうです。
